BADEN-POWELL PARK IN CA' SAVIO

Cavallino Treporti (VE) – 2009

Project for a public park on the Venice lagoon

The project for the new park in the municipality of Cavallino Treporti in the province of Venice was born from the experience of participatory planning with the local community, and arises from the need to deeply root the new arrangement in the landscape context of the place, thus giving it an identity immediately recognizable and at the same time responsive to all types of users.

The different areas are defined in a dedicated way and inserted in a space of great fluidity where different references to the landscape, halfway between the internal lagoon and the open sea, define their specificity: the Riva dei Balocchi (Shore of Toys) for the play area and the Riva della Quiete (Shore of Quiet) for a break. Likewise, all the different areas take a specific name: the Spianata dei Cavalieri (Esplanade of the Nights) is the central lawn perspective, the Mare di Dune (Sea of Dunes) is the area that recalls the beach of sandy dunes, the Calle Fiorita (Flowery Calle) is the promenade with benches, Campo Rosso (Red Field) is the area intended for children.

The different modeling of the terrain, more or less light or accentuated, the strong use of color, a wavy and ‘open’ fence to put the inside and outside of the park in direct relationship, painted in shades of green that fade into blue: every detail helps to recall the landscape of the lagoon, the beach and the sea, with plantations that express the conscious and constant commitment towards biodiversity, so as to create a park made up of plants suitable for the coastal environment of the lagoon, adaptable to extreme water table fluctuations, resistant to calcareous soil and marine aerosol.

The Municipality of Cavallino Treporti, for the Baden-Powell Park, received a nomination for the “The city for green” Award, XIII edition – 2012, 2nd Category – Municipalities from 5,000 to 15,000 inhabitants.
