KALEIDOSCOPE

Chaumont sur Loire (FR), 2004

XIII° FESTIVAL INTERNATIONAL DES JARDINS DE CHAUMONT SUR LOIRE

In the 2004 edition, whose theme is Chaos, order and disorder, aMAZING_sTUDIO proposed the ‘Points de vue’ project which started from the assumption that the garden is a place where emotions, thoughts and sensations are experienced from time to time in a new and different way, through the filter of one’s personal memory.

The project is structured according to a very regular scan of the space, in sixteen long strips, to indicate order; these regular stripes, however, rise from the ground to acquire volume, but they do so in a disorderly way: they rise with different undulations, so as to create as many waves, moreover all of different colours; some are planted with long-flowering herbaceous plants, while others are treated as simple paths, in a contrasting chromatic confusion.

This is what you see when you enter the garden; the paths lead you to reach the bottom of the garden where there are several chairs and many kaleidoscopes: if you turn to look at the colored stripes we have a completely different view and the many small kaleidoscopes scattered here and there offer, in addition, a new opportunity, to see another garden, completely different: all of a sudden, through the kaleidoscope, it transforms into a crowd of chaotic images so that order, disorder and chaos are no longer more than a question of points of view. Jean-Paul Pigeat gave the garden the title ‘Kaléïdoscope’.
