FARM IN MAREMMA

Manciano (GR), 2008

Architectural and landscape project for a new farm in Maremma

On a large hill overlooking the sea, the project for a farm involves the construction of different new buildings, from the main house to the annexes, from warehouses to buildings for agricultural use, around a large central courtyard, according to traditional architecture of Tuscan farmhouses.

The arrangement of the area also involves the definition of the areas intended for cultivation such as olive groves and vineyards, for which the project has defined location and orientation. Further down the valley from the building complex, an area has been defined for the construction of the swimming pool, so as not to interrupt the panoramic view towards the sea; the landscaping also includes the planting of the gardens belonging to the main residential building, and the planting of the central courtyard and the screening of the borders.

The plants used were chosen among the species present in the local landscape, both among those of the spontaneous flora, among those typical of the Mediterranean scrub, and among those ornamental species introduced since the end of the nineteenth century which characterize various building complexes.
