Restoring a garden by Pietro Porcinai

Siena (SI), 1999

New life to a vegetable garden

Among the various features of a park designed by Pietro Porcinai in Siena in the 1970’s, the 1000 square meter vegetable garden, which had been cultivated for a brief period for kitchen uses, was in need of a new design project. The beds have been given an ornamental layout, with herbs to recall the original use: lavender, creeping rosemary and thyme, one species per plot, to create a chromatic contrast when in bloom and a series of waves, due to their different heights, with the aim to underline the sequence of the eleven lozenge-beds, designed by Porcinai to emphasize the deep perspective of the triangular plot.
